Course Objectives

  • Course Description - Foundations of Personal Fitness
Students in this course acquire the knowledge and skills for movement that provide the foundation for 
enjoyment, continued social development through physical activity and access to a physically-active 
lifestyle.  Students exhibit a physically-active lifestyle and understand the relationship between physical 
activity and health throughout the lifespan.


  • Expected Learner Outcomes
  1. Movement. While participating in physical activity, the student applies physiological and biomechanical principles to improve health-related fitness. 
  2. Social development. During physical activity, the student develops positive self-management and social skills needed to work independently and with others. 
  3. Physical activity and health. The student applies safety practices associated with physical activity. 
  4. Physical activity and health. The student applies fitness principles during a personal fitness program. 
  5. Physical activity and health. The student comprehends practices that impact daily performance, physical activity, and health.
What we will discover throughout this course...
  •  Cardiorespiratory fitness is developed by engaging in aerobic activities
  • Cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and body composition can be measured
  •  Physical activity promotes good health and helps foster a healthy mind and body
  •  Over training may contribute to negative health problems
  •  There is a healthy relationship between sound nutritional practices and physical activity
  •  Inactivity, smoking, poor nutrition, and stress are changeable risk factors that affect health
  •  Fitness related activities are positive coping strategies for handling stress
  •  Eating and exercise patterns affect weight control, self-concept and physical performance
  •  Substance abuse affects personal health and performance in physical activity
  •  Attitude, both positive and negative, affect feelings about exercise and physical activities
